Port Fonda

I’ve been wanting to go to Port Fonda since it opened it’s doors!  I finally went last month and it was well worth the wait.  The owner of the upscale Mexican restaurant used to serve his cuisine out of a food truck in Westport but his wild success prompted him to open what is now a quirky cool Westport establishment.

Since the restaurant’s opening, the chef and owner, Patrick Ryan, has won several local awards and was a semifinalist in 2015 for a James Beard award.  Port Fonda is not your typical Tex-Mex meal of beef, tortilla and beans of some sort drenched in cheese.  This is a whole other level of Mexican deliciousness.  The majority of the entrees are served in an individual cast iron skillet which has been cooked in a wood-burning oven.  YUM!  But I’m getting ahead of myself…

I dined here for lunch with a couple friends during the week.  It happened to be my birthday (I know…this will be my last birthday post I promise!!) so we started with some champagne.

You MUST order the chicharrones!  DO NOT GO HERE WITHOUT ORDERING CHICHARRONES!  They are crisy fried pork rinds served with two of the signature salsas.  This was the first time in my life to eat pork rinds so don’t start thinking I’m some crazy pork rind fanatic!  The rinds come out still crackling and they just melt in your mouth!!  So so so good!

Here’s the link to the menus…the chicken enchiladas I ordered were amazing.  Very memorable!  My friends felt the same about they’re entrees.  This place will be on the top of my list next time I crave Mexican food. I may just go again today!  I will keep this post updated as I try more menu items.

Anyway…here’s what we got!

roasted chicken, chihuahua cheese, salsa ranchera, crema, radish salad.
